Jessica Pegula has a new role on the WTA Tour, having been tasked to lead the Tour Architecture Council.
Its establishment aims to develop meaningful improvements to the women’s calendar, an issue that WTA chair Valerie Camillo feels is now necessary to address.
The Dubai Tennis Championships have been plagued by withdrawals and injuries, just as the Qatar Open was before it.
The back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments, which have been without world number one Aryna Sabalenka among many other stars, followed the Australian Open in a very busy start to the 2026 season.

Jessica Pegula happy to help try and fix WTA schedule issue
Pegula has now addressed her role on the Tour Architecture Council, saying in Dubai: “Yeah, I’ve already served on the Players’ Council for quite a while now.
“I think honestly I’m not sure my role as far as what I’m doing now is going to change that much.
“But I think from my understanding, her point was to kind of just show the players and the tour that she’s taking this scheduling as a priority and that she really wants it to change.
“I think she really wants to try and force change quickly. I know at the WTA, we haven’t always moved the fastest in the past.
“I think that’s something she also kind of wants to show players, that she is really willing to kind of problem-solve this issue.
“I think she’s been listening to a lot of the players in the short amount of time that she’s been with us.
“I think that’s really exciting that she seems pretty adamant about changing. Yeah, she just kind of asked me if I would help.
“I think having a top player is always a good thing to have kind of a voice for the players, then also along with the tournaments to help drive and make decisions and changes.
“Yeah, I’m happy to help where I can. I think this is something that has been a priority for a while. So just hopefully we can get something done.”

Currently ranked fifth in the world, Pegula has stormed into the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
After beating Iva Jovic, she is now the fourth American since the format’s introduction in 2009 to claim 100 WTA-1000 main draw wins.

According to OptaAce, she has followed in the footsteps of iconic sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams, and her current rival Madison Keys.
Another victory would continue a fantastic trend for Pegula, who recently reached the semifinals of the Brisbane International and Australian Open, her only other tournaments this season.
