It’s been a long and memorable run at the US Open for Jessica Pegula, but her wait for a maiden Grand Slam title goes on.
Pegula was beaten in three sets by Aryna Sabalenka as the world number one roared back after losing the first set to reach another major final.
It would appear that Pegula feels she’s getting closer to a Grand Slam title, but after losing in last year’s final, she might have felt this was her time.
Lindsay Davenport sent a message to Pegula after the match, and it’s vital that she takes a lot of heart from this tournament and aims to bounce back next year.
After beating her, Sabalenka was full of praise for Pegula and as a stalwart in the top 10 for a number of years, it does feel as though her time will come.

It would appear that the American player is taking this all in her stride, although she’s perhaps forgiven for feeling sicker than usual after losing this match.
Pegula only lost four points on her own serve in the whole of set three, yet remarkably contrived to lose the match against the player who beat her in last year’s final.
This defeat might sting for a little bit, but nonetheless, after the match, she posted a photo of herself on social media looking rather glum with the caption: “When you lost 4 points on serve in the 3rd but you lost the match…”
Pegula will go again next season at the Grand Slams and for now, she will flick her attentions to the Asian swing and aim to reach the WTA Finals at the end of the year.

At 31-years-old, Pegula is perhaps running out of time to get over the line and lift one of the game’s biggest prizes.
Pegula has noticed fans being more accommodating towards her, however, and perhaps she does have the backing to push her on to collect a Grand Slam title.

As far as the Grand Slams go, Pegula has finished with a flourish following her first-round exit at Wimbledon and failing to reach the quarterfinals at either the Australian Open or the French Open.
There is a sense that Pegula is capable of winning a major before her career truly enters the twilight, and this run will once again give her considerable confidence ahead of next year.
