Jessica Pegula won for the second time in the WTA Finals as she comfortably dispatched Jasmine Paolini.
Pegula won in straight sets to round off a solid round robin stage of the competition, with the American being one of the form players coming into the event.
Pegula bemoaned Aryna Sabalenka earlier in the tournament for screaming at her team during her only defeat in the group stage of the competition.
She’s finished this part of the tournament in style, however, and could be a force if she makes it through to the semifinals.
Pegula praised Coco Gauff after beating her in the opening match, and now, the experienced player has done something that no American has managed since 2015.

Clearly, Williams’ record of Grand Slam titles will take some matching and given she’s waiting for her first one, Pegula isn’t in the same bracket.
However, she loves coming up against the top players, and her consistent form this year has been highlighted with one stat that has come to light on the back of her latest win.
After her win over Paolini, Pegula has registered 53 wins in 2025, and no American has done that after turning 30 since Williams did it in 2015.
It shows just how strong Pegula has been this season and serves to indicate just how competent she is once everything clicks into place out on the court.
Pegula will be itching to get over the line and win a Grand Slam, with Madison Keys likely to be the inspiration, given she won her first Grand Slam at the age of 29.

Pegula needs to take momentum into 2026
The 31-year-old will be under no illusions that time might be running out to win a major title.
However, her form in 2025 should give her confidence to take into next year, with the Australian Open set to come around pretty quickly.
Pegula needs to ensure she retains the belief that she can get over the line, and she’s proven this year that playing the big players on the tour isn’t necessarily a problem.
Finishing 2025 with a flourish is all good and well, but now she must seize the opportunity.
Resting up and returning with aplomb in January looks like a realistic possibility, and it will be intriguing to see how she begins 2026.
