Jessica Pegula is up and running at the Indian Wells Masters but it was not easy out on court.

The WTA 1000 event is known for its blustery conditions which some players have found difficulty dealing with over the years.

Jessica Pegula knew what to expect when she took to the court to face Magda Linette in her opening match of the tournament.

The American handled the conditions the best she could and was able to secure her place in the next round with a straight sets victory.

What did Jessica Pegula say about her second round win at Indian Wells?

Pegula maintained her unbeaten streak against Linette by winning their Indian Wells encounter.

It was a one-way contest as Linette struck 37 errors to just 12 winners as she struggled with the windy conditions.

Pegula was solid on serve as she won 66.1% of her points after her first serve and 67.6% of points behind her second delivery.

The 30-year-old took just one hour and 15 minutes to secure a victory after a performance Pegula said “wasn’t the prettiest” due to the conditions, but she just had to “accept that as a challenge.”

She added: “I was able to handle the side with the wind pretty well, and really take advantage of using that for my serve.

“Then just being a little gritty, digging out some tough points on the side that was against the wind. It was just a few points here and there, especially in the first.”

Jessica Pegula wins sixth successive match as she reaches Indian Wells third round

Pegula’s win over Linette was her sixth successive victory, dating back to the ATX Open.

Before arriving in the California desert, World number four Pegula claimed the title in Texas without dropping a set.

She has carried that form into the Indian Wells and Pegula will need to be at her best when he takes on Wang Xinyu in the next round.

She has yet to beat the Chinese player as she lost both their meetings at the Wimbledon and Wuhan in 2024.

The 23-year-old upset Jelena Ostapenko in the previous round she will aim to take out another big name to progress.
