Jasmine Paolini continues to search for the perfect coach as she looks ahead to the US Open.
Earlier this year, Paolini split with Renzo Furlan, her long-time coach, who had guided her to the 2024 French Open and Wimbledon finals.
Making a move to replace Furlan, Paolini hired Marc Lopez, a Spanish coach who had worked with Rafael Nadal during the latter stages of his career.
The pair won their biggest title together in Rome, as Paolini defeated Coco Gauff in the final of the 2025 Italian Open.

However, their partnership was short-lived, as Paolini and Lopez parted ways after the Italian failed to reach the quarterfinals of both the French Open and Wimbledon.
Speaking to the media ahead of the 2025 Canadian Open, Paolini has revealed who she is working with now.
Jasmine Paolini says she will work with Federico Gaio in Canada, Cincinnati and at the US Open
During her pre-tournament press conference, Paolini shared an update on her coaching situation.
“As for the organization, I’m here with Federico Gaio, who will also help me in Cincinnati and the US Open,” she said.
“Obviously, in the meantime, I’m looking around and we’re trying to organize ourselves as best we can: we’ll see what the future holds.”

The world number nine then issued an injury update, having struggled with her knee recently.
“The pain in my knee is better, I hope there aren’t any setbacks, but I’m positive,” said Paolini.
Paolini will hope her knee holds up when she kicks off her Canadian Open campaign on Tuesday, July 29, against Japan’s Aoi Ito.
Who is Jasmine Paolini’s new coach – Federico Gaio?
For the next few months, Paolini will be coached by Gaio, an Italian tennis star.
Gaio hasn’t retired from tennis, but last played a match in 2024, as he takes his first step into coaching alongside Paolini.

Making his debut in 2009, the 33-year-old enjoyed the majority of his singles success on the ATP Challenger Tour, where he qualified for nine finals, winning four.

Reaching a career-high ranking of 124th in the world, Gaio never quite made the breakthrough at the Grand Slam level.
Twice appearing in the main draw, Gaio lost in the first round of both the 2018 and 2020 US Open tournaments.
It remains to be seen if Gaio will make a return to singles action in the future, but for now, it seems like his focus is on Paolini and her US Open preparations.
Jasmine Paolini’s record at the US Open
Paolini will play two warm-up tournaments, the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open, before she makes the trip to New York.
She has struggled at the US Open throughout her career, more than she has at the other three Grand Slams, as she’ll no doubt look to improve upon her record in 2025.
| Grand Slam | Best result | Latest result | Win/Loss record | Win % |
| Australian Open | 4R – 2024 | 3R – 2025 | 5-6 | 45% |
| French Open | F – 2024 | 4R – 2025 | 12-7 | 63% |
| Wimbledon | F – 2024 | 2R – 2025 | 7-4 | 58% |
| US Open | 4R – 2024 | 4R – 2024 | 4-5 | 44% |
Paolini has only won four matches at Flushing Meadows, three of which came in 2024 when she made a career-best run to the last 16.
- 2024 US Open 1R – Jasmine Paolini beat Bianca Andreescu, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4
- 2024 US Open 1R – Jasmine Paolini beat Karolina Pliskova, 0-0 (RET)
- 2024 US Open 1R – Jasmine Paolini beat Yulia Putintseva, 6-3, 6-4
Failing in her bid to reach the quarterfinals, Paolini lost to Karolina Muchova in the fourth round 3-6, 3-6.
Only time will tell if she can go one better this time around, but it will certainly be interesting to see how she gets on with Gaio in her corner.
The 2025 US Open is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 24.
