Jasmine Paolini expressed her dismay with one area of her game after reaching the Wimbledon final.
The Italian has enjoyed a magical run at the All-England Club and she has a chance to achieve a fairytale ending if she can lift the Venus Rosewater Dish on Saturday.
She kept her Wimbledon journey alive but had to do it the hard way as Donna Vekic pushed her to the limit in an epic semi-final, where multiple match points came and went.
But the 28-year-old dug deep to claim the biggest win of her career and reach her second successive final at a major.
What did Jasmine Paolini do badly against Donna Vekic at Wimbledon?
Though Paolini turned the match around, it was Vekic who grabbed the initiative by taking the first set for the loss of just two games. She was very aggressive from the start of each point, especially on the seventh seed’s second serve.
She won just 67% of first serve points during the contest and this was a significant hurdle to overcome. But Paolini rose to the challenge as claimed a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(8) in front of a packed crowd on Centre Court.
Paolini mentioned her serving woes during her on-court interview, saying: “It was really tough, she played unbelievable. She was hitting winners everywhere and I was struggling at the beginning.
“But I was just repeating to myself to fight for every ball and try to improve a little bit on the court because I was serving really badly! But I am so happy with this win. This match I will remember forever.”

Who will Jasmine Paolini play in the Wimbledon final?
Paolini booked her spot in her first Wimbledon final where she will face 31st seed Barbora Krejčíková.
The Czech player is searching for her second Grand Slam title following success at the French Open back in 2021.
She produced a fantastic comeback to stun Elena Rybakina to reach Saturday’s championship match.
The pair have played just once, and that meeting came back in the first round of qualifying at the 2018 Australian Open, which Krejčíková won 6-2, 6-1.
It would be a huge shock if either player won by that scoreline on Saturday, as Wimbledon gets set to crown a new ladies’ singles champion.
