Jannik Sinner and his team will toast a second Australian Open title for the next week or so after the world number one retained the title which he won for the first time in 2024.

Sinner blew the field away and lost just one set from his seven matches at the tournament. In the final, he thrashed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to leave the German without a major title to his name.

Sinner broke records galore during the final of the Australian Open. As the runaway leader at the summit of the ATP World Rankings, the 23-year-old is very much the player to beat in today’s game.

Not only was it a proud moment for Sinner but also for his coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi who have done a truly tremendous job when it comes to making Sinner the dominant force that he is at present.

Simone Vagnozzi shares whether Sinner can emulate true tennis greats

With three Grand Slam titles to his name at 23, Sinner is drawing comparisons to Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal with the current world number one now very much the top man in today’s game.

Vagnozzi has now been quizzed on this notion and he’s given his reaction as to whether or not he should get those comparisons.

He said during his press conference: “You know, he’s still young. He have already won three tournaments. You never know what’s happen in the future, but for sure he is the guy that tries to improve every day, and going on court, on practice, and try to put new things on his game, try to improve physically.

“So I think it’s one of the guys that can reach the top level. I mean, when we speak about top level, we think about Novak, about Roger or Rafa.

“We are still long way, but for sure is one of the guy that can try to reach this kind of player.”

Jannik Sinner still searching for Grand Slam titles on grass and clay

It’s quite clear that Sinner has no problems playing on the hard courts in the USA or Australia but he remains in search of major titles on the clay in Paris and on grass at Wimbledon.

Vagnozzi was also quizzed on that element of Sinner’s game. He believes that things will click on those other surfaces and he can get plenty of joy in the future.

He added: “So I think for sure is natural surface is hard court. Last year he play semis in Paris and the quarters in Wimbledon. The year before semis.

“For sure clay maybe is little bit more difficult. But he can play good also there I think, and he can also try to win Roland Garros.

“I think Wimbledon last year he was a little bit unlucky because he was not 100% the day that he lost with Medvedev, otherwise probably we had small chances also to win there in Wimbledon.

“I think we have chance to be ready to try to win Paris and also Wimbledon. So we will see.”

Sinner will naturally enjoy this latest win. However, as the ultimate perfectionist, the Italian will now move on to the next challenge this year as he looks to seriously dominate the men’s game.
