Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters, but his incredible record streak came to an end.

For the first time since Shanghai in 2025, Sinner conceded a set at an ATP Masters 1000 event.

The Italian had won 37 consecutive sets at the premium level; 13 more than the previous record holder, Novak Djokovic.

Sinner’s streak came to an end in the second set against Tomas Machac in the round of 16 in Monte-Carlo, before he came back to win the match in the decider.

The conceded set was his first overall on the ATP Tour since the Qatar Open in February, having completed the Sunshine Double flawlessly.

Sinner, seeded second at the clay-court tournament, dominated Ugo Humbert in the first round, winning 6-3, 6-0.

He enjoyed a strong start to the match with Machac, clinching the first set 6-1, but the Czech star made it one apiece after triumphing in a second-set tiebreak.

Asked in his post-match press conference if the heat played a part in his level dropping against Machac, Sinner responded: “It wasn’t because of how hot it was.

“I’ve played a lot of matches and I’ve trained a lot. We won the match now, we’re in the quarterfinal. I know I can raise my level, maybe I won’t, but I know I can.”

Sinner will take on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters, whom he has beaten four times in a row since.

Jannik Sinner’s incredible streak at ATP Masters 1000 events

Sinner smashed Djokovic’s record for the most consecutive sets won at Masters competitions, with the Serb previously setting the bar at 24 during the 2016 season.

Carlos Alcaraz came close to beating Djokovic’s record in 2023 when he won Indian Wells without dropping a set, but fell to Sinner in the semifinals.

Djokovic also has the fourth highest tally in history with 19, while Andy Murray ranks fifth all-time, having won 18 straight sets in 2016.
