Jannik Sinner is a player constantly evolving in his relentless pursuit to win it all.

At present, the only man who has routinely stood in his way is Carlos Alcaraz, and any win claimed over him always feels that much more special.

Already, these two have conjured a rivalry that will likely go down in history, and the scary thing is that they still likely have over a decade of competing to go before they retire.

By that point, they could have amassed ridiculous numbers in terms of elite honours won, with this latest triumph, Jannik Sinner’s second at the ATP Finals.

To be pitted against a player of Alcaraz’s quality must take a toll on a player. It would also explain where the 24-year-old’s burning desire to continue improving comes from too.

Jannik Sinner shares how he has progressed his game

Speaking to Sky Sports after his second title in as many years, Sinner began by reflecting on winning another ATP Finals in his home country.

He noted: “There is no better ending for the season. It has been an incredible season. So many ups but difficult moments, obviously, for various reasons.

Is another Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner final good for men’s tennis?

“Finishing the season in Turin, in front of the home crowd, against the best player in the world and my biggest rival was amazing.

“The level was very, very high, especially the first set. The tiebreaker was a key moment. I got lucky when I broke him back, which gives you some confidence and belief. I am very happy to finish the season like this.”

Then touching upon his level throughout the week, where he went flawless yet again, Sinner added: “For sure it was very, very high. I used to not serve like this, especially in important moments. We worked a lot so this shot is one of the most consistent, hopefully in the future.

“The level I played and how I started the tournament against Felix was important and a huge confidence boost straight away.

“Seeing that I can play at this level for a whole week is amazing, especially the last months have been very, very positive for me, so a bit of rest is now important, and we will see how 2026 goes.”

Alcaraz sent an instant message to Sinner straight after his loss, warning him of what’s to come in 2026.

Jannik Sinner’s desperation for improvement will make him a legend

Just like Alcaraz, and just like the Big Four that came before them, Sinner shares a unique trait.

He is always striving to improve.

And whilst the majority of the ATP Tour would claim to also boast this desire, the difference between them and the aforementioned five is that once they pick where to improve, the changes become visible in no time at all.

Their ability to hone in on an area of need and completely overhaul it, at times midway through the season, is special. It is what separates them from the rest of the chasing pack, and explains why they only keep getting further and further away from the likes of Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and co.

Sinner and Alcaraz’s work ethic and technical proficiency will make them legends by the time they end their respective careers. It would be argued that they are already at that status now.
