Darren Cahill wasn’t supposed to be coaching Jannik Sinner at the 2026 Australian Open…
During last year’s tournament, Cahill announced his plans to leave Sinner at the end of the season.
However, after another successful season, in which Sinner won two Grand Slams, plans changed.
Who is your favorite ATP player right now?
Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi will attempt to guide Sinner to a third consecutive Australian Open title in 2026.
But will Cahill see out the whole season with Sinner?
During the Australian Open draw ceremony, Sinner answered that very question.
Darren Cahill will coach Jannik Sinner for ‘at least one more season’
Sinner is looking forward to another year with the Aussie by his side.
“Yeah, it’s great,” he said.
“We had a nice talk at the end of the year, last year.
“It’s great to share at least one more season with him.

“He gives so much calmness, and I feel very safe with him in the corner. Not only me, but the rest of the team.
“It’s special here, playing in Australia, with one Australian team member.
“It’s great, and obviously, we’ll try to do the best we possibly can.”
Fans of the Italian will be glad to hear that his coaching team will remain unchanged for 2026.
It’s also interesting to hear Sinner say they plan to continue for ‘at least one more season’, implying there is now scope for Cahill to stay on long term.
Only time will tell how long their relationship will last, but for now, their focus will turn to the 2026 Australian Open.
Jannik Sinner’s Australian Open draw
Sinner has been given a relatively tricky Australian Open draw, having been placed in the same half as 10-time champion Novak Djokovic.
Who has the most difficult Australian Open draw?
Therefore, if he is to win a third consecutive title Down Under, he may need to beat Djokovic and his great rival, Carlos Alcaraz, in back-to-back matches.
Jannik Sinner’s projected route to the title
- 1R vs Hugo Gaston
- 2R vs James Duckworth
- 3R vs Joao Fonseca
- 4R vs Karen Khachanov
- QF vs Ben Shelton
- SF vs Novak Djokovic
- F vs Carlos Alcaraz
He’ll be tested before then as well, with Joao Fonseca and Ben Shelton potentially awaiting him in the third round and the quarterfinals.

However, the chances are that he will reach the Australian Open final.
And it would be a big surprise to see him play anyone other than Alcaraz in the Championship match.
The world’s top two players have won the last eight Grand Slam titles and are expected to continue their dominant streak into 2026.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s Grand Slam streak
| Grand Slam | Winner | Runner-up | Score |
| 2024 Australian Open | Jannik Sinner | Daniil Medvedev | 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 |
| 2024 French Open | Carlos Alcaraz | Alexander Zverev | 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 |
| 2024 Wimbledon | Carlos Alcaraz | Novak Djokovic | 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 |
| 2024 US Open | Jannik Sinner | Taylor Fritz | 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 |
| 2025 Australian Open | Jannik Sinner | Alexander Zverev | 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 |
| 2025 French Open | Carlos Alcaraz | Jannik Sinner | 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 |
| 2025 Wimbledon | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 |
| 2025 US Open | Carlos Alcaraz | Jannik Sinner | 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 |
It’s tough to predict who would win a potential final between Sinner and Alcaraz, but luckily for the Italian, he’s got his own dominant streak working in his favor…
