Jannik Sinner has been speaking with the press ahead of his return to professional tennis following a three-month ban from the game.
His first tournament will be a homecoming occasion for Sinner at the Rome Masters, and he’s now busy preparing for that event.
Sinner is comfortable at the top of the world rankings, and this week he’s actually received a small boost ahead of his return to action, with the news that Carlos Alcaraz has missed the Madrid Open through injury, whilst Novak Djokovic has already confirmed he won’t play in Rome.
The Italian won the first Grand Slam of the year by beating Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open, and he will be hoping to remain on the glory trail by winning the French Open next month.

Jannik Sinner picks out greatest career moment to date
The Italian has enjoyed many brilliant moments in his young career to date and during an interview ahead of his comeback, he’s picked out his best so far.
He told TG1: “”The greatest emotion I’ve ever felt playing tennis? When I found out I would become number 1 in the world, it’s not just an achievement, it’s the result of an entire year. That for me was an incredible moment. Another crazy moment, as an Italian, is when you step onto the Centrale in Rome or Turin, it doesn’t even feel like you’re on a tennis court. It feels like a football stadium.”
Sinner is still head and shoulders above the field at the top of the ATP World Rankings and he will want to get back winning ways quickly to maintain that advantage.
With Alcaraz nursing an injury, the prospects of him doing that are quite strong and very few will be backing against him winning in Rome next month.
What Rafael Nadal has said about Jannik Sinner
Everyone associated with tennis seems to have an opinion on Sinner and the ban that has been imposed on him and the circumstances surrounding it.
Sinner has been criticised by some current and former professionals but he’s been defended by Nadal.
He told CNN: “First of all, I believe Jannik Sinner did not want to do something that is now allowed at all, so I 100% believe in Jannik Sinner.
“Second, talking about the process, I believe in justice. For some reason we have the justice there that they have to make decisions. They have all the information that probably not one of us has and they make the decisions.”
All eyes will be on Sinner next month and it will be fascinating to see what sort of form he showcases when he does get the racket back out.
