Jannik Sinner has suffered a shock exit from Roland Garros after falling in the second round to Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
Sinner bowed out of Roland Garros in very disappointing circumstances, having struggled with fitness and the heat during his meeting with the Argentine.
The ATP number one took a medical timeout during the match at Philippe Chatrier, which he lost 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 1-6, 1-6.
Sinner admitted feeling dizzy after his loss in the hot conditions, with the duo playing for three hours and 36 minutes before Cerundolo emerged victorious.
The Italian, who was the overwhelming favorite to win Roland Garros, has now taken to social media to share an update after the shock loss.
How concerned are you about Jannik Sinner’s physical issues going forward in his career?

Sharing images of his time on the court in Paris, Sinner posted on his Instagram: “It was not my day today.
“We’ve had an incredible year so far but now I need some time off.
“Thank you all for the amazing support and congrats to [Juan Manuel Cerundolo] on a solid match.
“See you soon.
“Au revoir, Paris.”
Of course, Sinner’s struggles in the sun played a key role in the final outcome of the match, but Cerundolo still deserves credit for his efforts on the clay.
He showed fine physical and mental strength to stay in the match, which his opponent very likely would have won if not for his major difficulties in the French capital.
Who is your dark horse for the Roland Garros title this year?
Who can step up amid Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz absence?
Sinner undoubtedly needs and indeed deserves time off following his busy time of late and his stunning efforts on the court.
Such efforts include a 30-match winning streak, with the Italian having secured five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles.
Sinner is now set for a break from action following his struggles, which are unfortunately nothing new for the 24-year-old.
And he will join his fellow superstar and fierce rival Carlos Alcaraz on the sidelines, with the Spaniard currently nursing a wrist injury.
Both players are rightfully set to prioritize their health at this key stage of their careers, with their absence now paving the way for another ATP player to step up and claim success.
| Australian Open | French Open | Wimbledon | US Open | |
| 2024 | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | Carlos Alcaraz | Jannik Sinner |
| 2025 | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz |
| 2026 | Carlos Alcaraz | – | – | – |
That starts at Roland Garros, where a new Grand Slam champion is now set to be crowned for the first time in a handful of years.
Remarkably, Sinner and Alcaraz have combined to win all nine Grand Slam titles since 2024, but that stunning run will come to an end in Paris.
