Jannik Sinner is now just two wins away from successfully defending his US Open title after beating Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals.
Sinner defeated Musetti in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, to continue his dominant campaign at Flushing Meadows this year.
The world number one has dropped just one set at the tournament so far, which came in his third-round clash with Denis Shapovalov.
His next test comes in the form of Felix Auger-Aliassime, who holds a winning record against him, leading the head-to-head by two wins to one.
Though the Canadian is capable of delivering an upset, Sinner remains the heavy favourite and is continuing to make history in New York.
Jannik Sinner breaks more records at the 2025 US Open
With his triumph over fellow Italian Musetti, the 24-year-old has clinched two records at the US Open.
He has become both the first Italian in the Open Era and the first player born since 1990 to advance to the semifinals in men’s singles at all four Grand Slam events in a season.
Sinner has made the final of every major in 2025, having secured a second Australian Open title, a maiden Wimbledon crown, and finishing as the runner up at Roland Garros.
In Paris, he was three championship points removed from potentially being on track to complete the Calendar Grand Slam, a feat not managed in men’s tennis since 1969.

Should Sinner go on to win the US Open title once again, he will become the first to defend the title in 17 years.
The last player to go back-to-back in the Big Apple was Roger Federer, who won his fifth championship in a row in 2008.

Novak Djokovic has come close to winning consecutive US Open titles on two occasions, but was denied by Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka in 2012 and 2016, respectively.
The reigning champion is close now, but will have to go through one of Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz in the final to seal the deal.
