Jannik Sinner might wish to put six numbers on for the lottery this week after he got out of jail to reach the quarter-final of Wimbledon.

Sinner was trailing by two sets to love when the unfortunate Grigor Dimitrov injured his pectoral muscle while performing a routine serve.

After trying to have some treatment for the injury, he returned to the court to shake the hand of Sinner and hand him a huge lifeline.

The World number one looked badly out of sorts for the first two sets and was locked at 2-2 in the third set before the retirement came in this Wimbledon clash.

However, it might not all be good news for Sinner, with an update now coming to light on his fitness…

Jannik Sinner provides fitness update after reaching Wimbledon quarter-final

In the very first game of the match, Sinner landed awkwardly on his wrist, which seemed to jar his elbow.

That caused him some grief for a little while and it appears that it might be worse than it initially looked.

After coming through the match with Dimitrov in fortunate circumstances, he decided to discuss his issue in his press conference.

He said: “It happened very early in the match. First game. Quite an unfortunate fall. Checked the videos a bit. It didn’t seem like a tough one, but I still felt it quite a lot. Especially on the serve and forehand. I could feel it. Let’s see. Tomorrow we are gonna check to see how it is. Let’s see.”

Journalist provides very worrying update on Sinner’s fitness

In a further twist on Sinner’s fitness, a journalist has taken to X to post that an MRI scan is now booked for the Italian tomorrow.

As is normally the case at Wimbledon, Sinner will get a rest day tomorrow before his quarter-final against Ben Shelton on Wednesday.

With Novak Djokovic likely to be a potential semi-final opponent, he can ill-afford to have anything wrong with his fitness and this is a huge worry.

Adam Addicott is the editor of Ubitennis and he posted: “Latest from Wimbledon – Sinner will undergo an MRI tomorrow on his elbow and there are concerns.”

It would be devastating for the tournament to lose the world number one and hopefully, Shelton won’t get a bye to the last four.

Sinner is yet to win Wimbledon and it’s a tournament that he will be desperate to wrestle away from Carlos Alcaraz, especially after his French Open defeat to the Spaniard.
