Jannik Sinner booked his place in the championship match at the ATP Finals after beating Alex de Minaur in straight sets.

The Australian made it competitive in the first set, but after Sinner clinched a late break to take the opener, he went on to dominate in the second and ultimately won 7-5, 6-2.

Sinner has now made three consecutive finals in Turin and will face either Felix Auger-Aliassime or his rival, world number one Carlos Alcaraz, to defend his crown.

Following his semifinal victory, the Italian reacted to recording a treble of visits to the final in his home country.

In his on-court interview, Sinner said: “First of all, I’m very happy. Last event of the year, great to finish in this way. It was a very tough match, especially at the beginning of the first set.

“I felt like he was serving great, very precise. In the second set, I happened to break very early, and my level rose.

“I tried to be a bit more aggressive, which worked very well, but yeah, it was a very tough match. But making three consecutive finals here in Turin means a lot to me, it’s a great atmosphere, great place for me to play tennis, and a great place to close this beautiful season I’ve played in.

“Tomorrow I will enjoy, I will try my best to have the best possible result, but in any case, it’s been an amazing week.”

Where do you think Felix Auger-Aliassime will finish the year ranked next year?

Sinner fired seven aces against De Minaur and enjoyed a first serve win percentage of 84%, without conceding a break of serve.

The world number two said: “I felt like at the end of last year, I was serving much better than throughout the year, and this year has been similar.

“I hope that we will work a lot in the pre-season to be ready for the next season, hopefully, I can also serve like this throughout the season, making the serve as stable as possible.

“But it has worked very well, especially in this tournament. Obviously, indoors, well, it helps you, gives you a huge hand to be more confident.

“Very happy with the work I’m doing, and let’s see what is coming. Tomorrow is the last match of the season for me, so I’m very happy to finish with a final.”

Jannik Sinner joins Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl in incredible feat

Since the inauguration of the ATP Finals in 1970, Sinner is now just the third player to reach three consecutive finals at the tournament before turning 25.

He joins tennis legends Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl in the exclusive club of players to achieve the incredible feat.

Sinner first featured in the title bout in Turin at the end of the 2023 season, and came up short against Novak Djokovic.

Last year, however, he clinched the prestigious trophy for the first time after beating Taylor Fritz in the final.

Now, he will look to go back-to-back against either Auger-Aliassime or Alcaraz, both of whom he has defeated this season.
