Jannik Sinner is the new champion of the Italian Open after defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in a one-sided final.
Sinner was delighted to claim the Rome title, especially after becoming the first man to do so since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
It represents a sixth successive ATP Masters 1000 title for the Italian, who previously won in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid.
In fact, Sinner has now triumphed at all nine ATP Masters tournaments throughout his career, following in the footsteps of Novak Djokovic.
Following his success at the Italian Open, the world number one has now shared his immediate plans ahead of Roland Garros, which starts later this month.

Jannik Sinner confirms recovery time ahead of Roland Garros
Sinner said shortly after his one-hour, 45-minute win in Rome: “Yeah, no, the main priority is to recover as much as I can in the next two, three days.
“There is not going to be a lot of training, for sure.
“Tennis, zero.
“Physical, we need to see.
“I want to be a little bit with my family, as well, in this moment.
“Switching off on tennis, then from Thursday on I think I will be there in Paris.

Jannik Sinner surpasses Carlos Alcaraz for ATP big titles
It’s a wise move from Sinner, who continues to completely dominate the ATP Tour, albeit in the absence of Carlos Alcaraz.
The two superstars have played out a thrilling rivalry in recent years, but the Spaniard is currently sidelined with a wrist injury.
The issue has unfortunately ruled Alcaraz out of Roland Garros too, strongly suggesting that another success is incoming for Sinner.
He has indeed just surpassed his rival for career big titles, having just claimed his 16th such honour at the Italian Open.
Sinner now boasts four Grand Slam titles, two ATP Finals titles and 10 ATP Masters 1000 titles, compared to figures of seven, zero and eight respectively for Alcaraz.
| Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | |
| 4 | Grand Slam | 7 |
| 2 | ATP Finals | 0 |
| 10 | Masters 1000 | 8 |
| 0 | Olympic gold | 0 |
The two played out one of the greatest matches of all-time at last year’s French Open final, where Alcaraz finally edged out Sinner after five hours and 29 minutes.
Unfortunately a repeat of that unforgettable clash is not possible this time around, and it remains to be seen who, if anyone, can topple the Italian.
