Jannik Sinner has continued his ruthless run at the Miami Open by beating Alex Michelsen to reach the quarterfinals.

Sinner is taking things one match at a time, with the second seed now taking on another American, Frances Tiafoe, for a semifinal spot.

He has yet to drop a set at this year’s Miami Open, where Sinner is the highest-ranked player remaining following Carlos Alcaraz’s surprise defeat in round three.

It’s been a record-breaking tournament from the Italian, with Sinner boasting the most consecutive sets won at ATP Masters events in the history of the format.

He has since extended his streak to 28, but has arguably recorded an even more impressive feat after surpassing Roger Federer’s Masters 1000 career winning percentage.

Who are you backing to complete the sunshine double?

Or do you think both Sabalenka and Sinner will win the Miami Open?

Jannik Sinner surpasses Roger Federer’s Masters career winning percentage

Following his latest win, Sinner now has a winning percentage of .7803 at such tournaments, overtaking Federer’s .7791.

For players with a minimum of 50 matches played, he’s now third in the all-time list behind the others who helped form the legendary Big Three.

Rafael Nadal sits at the very top of the pile with a figure of .8200, followed by Novak Djokovic in second with .8140.

Also in the top five is Carlos Alcaraz with .7739, while Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Stefan Edberg, Alexander Zverev and Guillermo Coria complete the top 10.

Sinner’s total is generated from his 103-29 win-loss record at ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, which he’ll now look to improve upon against Tiafoe.

Who is the better hard court player – Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner?

Why history strongly favors Jannik Sinner vs Frances Tiafoe

It’s been a remarkable tournament at the Miami Open so far, with no top 10 players left in the top half of the draw.

There was also hope for a home winner, especially with five American men reaching the Miami fourth round.

But Michelsen, Sebastian Korda and Taylor Fritz have all since exited the tournament, with only Tiafoe and Tommy Paul progressing.

And the future now looks very daunting for Tiafoe, who has lost four of his five previous ATP meetings with Sinner.

More worryingly, however, is the fact that the Italian has now won his past 28 matches against American opponents, dating back to a Ben Shelton defeat at Shanghai 2023.

Tiafoe does at least have great momentum right now, and will still be on a high after claiming his 250th career win earlier in the tournament.
