Jannik Sinner beat Frances Tiafoe last night to reach the Miami Open semi-finals, and in doing so kept his dream of completing the Sunshine Double alive.
In what was arguably his most flawless performance of the tournament so far, the world number two breezed past his opponent, 6-2, 6-2. He now faces Alexander Zverev for a spot in the final.
Speaking after his emphatic win over Frances Tiafoe, Jannik Sinner was keen to offer his honest opinion on the Miami Open as a tournament.
He admitted that, whilst ‘unique’, he enjoyed the charm of the event whilst touching on the fans too.
Jannik Sinner explains what’s ‘unique’ about the Miami Open
Speaking to reporters, Sinner began by admitting: “It’s very unique.”
He expanded by claiming: “Also, how the stadium is made, you have two different views, playing from one side and the other side.
Who are you backing to complete the sunshine double?
Or do you think both Sabalenka and Sinner will win the Miami Open?
“The atmosphere has been great this year. Behind the scenes, we have a lot of room and a lot of space, which is exactly what we need, especially at the beginning of the tournament.
“Afterwards, it is a little bit more empty, it seems even bigger. It’s a great tournament. They take care of us in a very positive way, and I am always happy to come back here, so it’s good.”
Frances Tiafoe shares whether he likes the Miami Open
Then, chatting in his own press conference, Tiafoe would offer his verdict on the event as a whole too.
He added: “It’s different. It’s a football stadium. I came to watch a lot of football games here, so it’s funny when the tournament is going on.
“It’s a big space. There are a lot of things they can do with it. The tournament has been here for a while now. Every year, the tournament has improvements, and it’s been elevated a little bit.
Who is the better hard court player – Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner?
“It’s the best I have done here in a long time, so it’s been cool to be here and see the fans get after the match and get behind me.
“I really like playing here and being here.”
Tiafoe revealed his plans to challenge Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz late last year, but if last night’s showing was anything to go by, he is still far from the requisite level.
Jannik Sinner’s head-to-head record against Alexander Zverev
As noted earlier, Sinner will now face Zverev in a showdown of the two highest-ranked players left in the competition.
Whoever wins this semi-final should be the overwhelming favourite to go on and seal the trophy.
| Year | Tournament | Round | Winner |
| 2026 | Indian Wells | Semi-final | Jannik Sinner |
| 2025 | ATP Finals | Round Robin | Jannik Sinner |
| 2025 | Paris Masters | Semi-final | Jannik Sinner |
| 2025 | Vienna Open | Final | Jannik Sinner |
| 2025 | Australian Open | Final | Jannik Sinner |
However, it’s hard to look past the 24-year-old for this, given the success he has enjoyed over the world number three in recent times.
Sinner leads their head-to-head with seven wins to four, and has won their last six meetings.
Zverev last tasted victory over the former world number one in 2023.
