The men’s tournament at the Madrid Open has approached its semifinal stage, and there are two exciting final four showdowns set to get underway.

World number one Jannik Sinner will take on Arthur Fils for just the second time in their careers, with the Italian triumphing in the sole previous meeting.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev will do battle with 21-year-old Alexander Blockx for the very first time on the ATP Tour.

Where will Alexander Zverev finish 2026 ranked?

Both Fils and Blockx are looking to reach a maiden ATP Masters 1000 final at the Madrid Open.

Sinner and Zverev, on the other hand, are no strangers to performing on the biggest stages, and the two have just made history with recent results in the Spanish capital.

Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner make history in Madrid

Sinner booked his place in the semifinals by beating 19-year-old home hope Rafael Jodar in straight sets.

Zverev followed suit by comfortably beating Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the final four of the tournament.

With the German’s win, according to Opta Ace, Zverev and Sinner are now the first pair to reach the semifinal at five or more consecutive ATP Masters 1000 events since the format’s inception in 1990.

Can any of these four players stop Jannik Sinner winning the French Open this year?

Is there anyone else you think could be a threat to Sinner?

From the 2025 Paris Masters until the 2026 Madrid Open, Zverev has reached the semifinals at each Masters competition.

Sinner, on the other hand, has won every ATP Masters 1000 tournament in that same time frame and is looking to clinch a historic fifth consecutive trophy in Madrid.

The best ever streaks at ATP Masters 1000 tournaments

There is currently a three-way tie for the most consecutive ATP Masters 1000 events won without missing a tournament on the calendar.

Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have all managed four in a row, with the Serb doing so on three separate occasions.

Djokovic did win five straight between 2014 and 2015, but missed the Madrid Open during his streak.

Should Sinner win the Madrid Open, he will become the outright leader in consecutive Masters events won.
