Jannik Sinner made history on Sunday with his victory over Alexander Zverev in the Madrid Open final.

Sinner defeated Zverev comfortably in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to become the first man ever to win five straight ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

Since Paris 2025, the Italian has gone undefeated at Masters events and is now just an Italian Open title away from the Career Golden Masters.

Can any of these four players stop Jannik Sinner winning the French Open this year?

Is there anyone else you think could be a threat to Sinner?

With no Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic in his path, Sinner won the Madrid Open fairly comfortably

Having dominated Zverev in the final, the world number one has just matched one of Rafael Nadal’s records from 2009.

Jannik Sinner matches Rafael Nadal’s record from 2009

Sinner is now the first player in 17 years to concede three games or fewer games in a completed Masters final against a top-five opponent.

Nadal managed the feat in the championship match of the 2009 Indian Wells Open, where he beat Andy Murray 6-1, 6-2.

Sinner is also the first since Nadal in 2019 to concede three or fewer games in a Masters final against an opponent of any ranking.

His win over Zverev was his ninth consecutive victory in their head-to-head, having not lost to him since 2023.

What happened in Alexander Zverev’s training session before the final

Speaking on Sky Sports, presenter Gigi Salmon said: When we were waiting to come on to the court I was speaking to our colleagues from Sky Germany.

“They were at the Zverev practice earlier today and they said from the moment he walked on to court he looked defeated in practice.

“The body language was slumped, he was missing absolutely everything. Then I asked her if he’d worked with a psychologist and she said no, he has never worked with one.”

Former British player Colin Fleming replied: “They have kept it very much within the family, haven’t they? He has tried one or two coaches in the set up a little bit it has never really lasted long.

“His Father has always been in the box. Mischa has got more involved. It’s a shame to hear that. I had the pleasure of watching Sinner’s warm up and my goodness, he did not miss a ball for like 40 minutes.

“The guy he was hitting with I was so impressed by, just being able to keep up with that movement.
The intensity and the way he was hitting the ball, I was like this guy is going to play well today.”

Zverev has still yet to win a Masters title since the 2024 season, when he triumphed in Paris.
