Jakub Mensik’s participation at the 2025 Next Gen Finals was uncertain…
The 2025 Miami Open champion played his last singles match at the Davis Cup Finals, defeating Pablo Carreno Busta to give Czechia a 1-0 lead over Spain in the quarterfinals.
Unfortunately for Mensik, Czechia proceeded to lose the match 2-1, as they exited the competition at the quarterfinal stage.

It looked as though that would be the last we’d see of Mensik in 2025, with many expecting the 20-year-old to withdraw from the upcoming Next Gen Finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
However, it has now been confirmed that Mensik will return to the competition as the number-one seed, and he has sent a message to fans ahead of his arrival in the Middle East.
Jakub Mensik is ‘super excited’ to play the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals
In a video posted on the Next Gen ATP Finals X account, Mensik shared a message with fans.
“Hey guys, Jakub [Mensik] here, I’m super happy and super excited to qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second time.
“The whole year was really good for me, winning my first ATP title, the Masters 1000 in Miami, was a really great run.

“It makes it even more special finishing the year as a top 20 player.
“Really excited to see you guys in December, in Jeddah. For the Saudi people, for the kids, and all the whole country, it’s a great opportunity for the future.

Joao Fonseca won’t defend his Next Gen ATP Finals title
Sneaking into the competition as the number-eight seed in 2024, Joao Fonseca won the Next Gen ATP Finals title.
He won’t, however, return to defend his crown this year, as the following statement was released on the tournament’s X account.
“Joao Fonseca has withdrawn from the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF as he continues to recover from an injury sustained at the end of the 2025 ATP Tour season,” they said.

“We wish Joao the best in his recovery and in his preparations for the 2026 ATP Tour season.”
Fonseca’s withdrawal saw Spain’s Rafael Jodar promoted to the eighth and final qualification spot.
