Jack Sock shared the story of the player he had his biggest argument with on the ATP Tour.

The American announced his shock retirement from professional tennis after the 2023 US Open to play pickleball.

The 32-year-old played on the ATP Tour for 12 years and won four titles, and faced some of the greatest players of all time.

But Sock also shared the locker room with a player he had a heated altercation with, which proved to be the highest of his career.

Jack Sock names the player he once had heated clash with that he ‘never liked’

Jack Sock has plenty of experience competing at the top level of men’s tennis. The former top 10 player shared the locker room with legends such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

But during the latest episode of the Nothing Major podcast, he recalled a time when things were not very pleasant with one of his rivals.

“I think Houston against Feliciano Lopez. We never liked each other. Whether it was singles or doubles, I don’t know why. The way he carries himself around always rubbed me the wrong way,” Sock said.

“Houston one year, we almost bumped shoulders changing sides on a changeover walking by and we were just barking at each other during the match, which I wasn’t shy of doing and it carried into the locker room after.

“Houston night match it was just you and the other guy in the locker room, he was literally standing there with one leg on the bench and one leg down just yelling and going off and me and my coach.

“I think I said something like enjoy your flight back to Europe on the way out. Shouldn’t have done it, shouldn’t have gotten that far but we always had tension for sure when we played each other.

What is Jack Sock’s head-to-head rivalry with Feliciano Lopez?

Sock and Lopez played one another four times during their careers on the ATP Tour.

They claimed two wins apiece, with Lopez winning their first meeting at the 2013 Memphis Open, and their final encounter at the 2018 Indian Wells Masters.

Sock won their intense Houston Open battle 7-6(6) 1-6 6-4, which proved to be their only meeting away from hard courts.

The players also competed at the 2016 Shanghai Masters and it was another evenly-contested three set battle.

But Sock was able to produce his best tennis when it mattered to seal a 6-3 4-6 6-4 win.
