‘It could be’… Carlos Alcaraz shares which player he wants to forge a rivalry with

Carlos Alcaraz is hoping that he can form part of a rivalry much like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer did once his career gets into full swing.

The Spaniard already has one major to his name after he won Wimbledon last year by beating Novak Djokovic in the final.

At the moment, he’s trying desperately to claim a victory in the Miami Open and faces Gael Monfils later tonight in the last 32.

Alcaraz has already cast his mind into the future though and he’s hoping that he can become part of a rivalry like his compatriot Nadal did.

The 20-year-old is keen for someone to push him much like Federer spent his career pushing Nadal on to be better and play better tennis.

Earlier this month, Alcaraz defeated Sinner in the semi-final of Indian Wells before beating Daniil Medvedev in the final.

He’s now been explaining why he’d like to form a rivalry with someone and why Sinner looks like the ideal player to do that with.

Alcaraz told the ATP official website: “What I’ve learned from their rivalry is that you can never fall behind or throw in the towel. You always have to improve, you have to raise your level.

“Right now, because of how people see it, it could be with Jannik. Hopefully, Jannik and I both have a long and beautiful future ahead of us. I hope it will allow me to get the best out of myself and keep growing thanks to him.”

Alcaraz and Sinner would be some rivalry

This would be a seriously mouthwatering proposition and hopefully, the pair will stay at the top of their game.

Right now the pair stand at 4-4 when it comes to head-to-head in ATP events and there will be more battles over the years.

When Alcaraz beat Sinner at Indian Wells it was the first time the Australian Open champion had lost a game this season.

With that in mind, the Italian will hope they meet again soon so that he can exact revenge on the Wimbledon champion.

Alcaraz and Sinner are both going to win several major titles and right now they’ve both claimed one apiece.

With Djokovic not likely to be around for too many more years, it does feel as though Alcaraz and Sinner are the two players most likely to dominate the game much like Federer and Nadal did in their pomp.
