Lindsay Davenport has left Andy Roddick stunned with some comments she’s made about her playing career.

The 47-year-old is currently the Team USA captain for the Billie Jean King squad and won three of the four majors.

In total, Davenport won a very impressive 55 singles titles during her career and a further 38 playing in doubles competitions.

Despite such a glittering career, it would seem that Davenport has made some comments that have left Roddick pretty shell-shocked.

What Lindsay Davenport has said to leave Andy Roddick stunned

Well, this is definitely an interesting one, to say the least. Davenport, it would seem, had little confidence in her own ability.

Roddick has called the claims that she’s made ‘insane’ given how much she won during her long and successful career as a professional.

Davenport told the Served with Andy Roddick podcast: “I was totally insecure.

“I played in I think it’s seven singles finals at the slams and felt that way every single time. It was this fear of being embarrassed and I was always fearing the worst out there.

“Playing in front of a lot of people did not give me joy. I was always envious of people who went out there and made it look like a show.

“My favourite US Open was 93. I’d just turned 17 and I was unseeded and I played on the field courts. It was the hardcore US tennis fans and that was my favourite memory as the showcourts just used to cause me stress.”

Remarkable comments from Davenport

This just doesn’t make sense. Davenport always came across as pretty confident out on the court and three majors reflected that.

Perhaps there is an element that her talent should have reaped more Grand Slam silverware but these comments are just bizarre.

Roddick was never the sort of player who struggled with confidence. He did say on the podcast, however, that he always felt sick before he went out to play.

Davenport is now looking forward to a trip to the Billie Jean King finals at the end of the year.

Her job is to make sure that her players don’t suffer with the same crisis of confidence that she clearly did during her days as a player.
