Jack Draper lost to Arthur Rinderknech, 5-7, 7-6, 4-6, in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

The match was just his third of the year, having missed several months of action due to injury.

First, Draper defeated Viktor Durasovic in Norway at the Davis Cup, then he beat Quentin Halys in his Dubai opener.

2-1 for the year, Draper will now head to Indian Wells, an event he won last year.

While some would relish the opportunity to return to such a big event as the reigning champ, Draper may well be feeling the pressure.

Draper currently sits 15th in the ATP rankings, with 2,460 points.

The Brit is set to drop 1,000 points from his tally at Indian Wells, though, having won the title in 2025.

Therefore, Draper will fall out of the top 30 in the ‘Live Rankings’ when the tournament begins.

If he were to suffer an early exit, the Brit, who was ranked as high as fourth in the world a year ago, could find himself outside of the top-32 (Grand Slam seeded positions).

The pressure is on for Draper to perform!

He could have alleviated some of that pressure with a deep run in Dubai.

A title, final, or semifinal appearance would have guaranteed Draper a spot in the top-32, regardless of how he performed in Indian Wells.

Unfortunately for Draper, given the nature of his injury-ridden 2025 campaign, he’ll have plenty more points to defend after Indian Wells, too.

In May, Draper will defend another 600 points at the Madrid Open, where he reached the final last year.

If Draper can’t get up to speed fast and find the elite level we know he possesses, then he’ll be at risk of sliding down the rankings.

How did Jack Draper win Indian Wells in 2025?

The Brit certainly has a job to do these next few months, but he’s more than capable of doing it.

After all, his Indian Wells win in 2025 wasn’t exactly a fluke!

Draper took down some of the best players in the men’s game en route to his maiden Masters 1000 title.

All six wins hold value, but his semifinal victory against Carlos Alcaraz was the pick of the bunch.

In three sets, Draper stunned the two-time defending champion, 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.

The Indian Wells title was the highlight of Draper’s year, but it was the quality of the wins that told us everything we needed to know about the British number one.

When at his best and fully fit, Draper can beat anyone.

It’s easy to forget how highly-rated Draper was this time last year, given how long he’s been out with injury.

There was a point in 2025 when many argued that he was the third-best player in men’s tennis, behind Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

And that wasn’t a crazy suggestion at all!

As Alcaraz and Sinner continue to dominate the sport, and some ponder who might emerge as a genuine challenger to their duopoly, could Draper be the answer?

How do you feel about Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance of men’s tennis right now?

Is it at risk of making the men's game boring?

If he can rediscover that 2025 form, then 100% he can.

It remains to be seen how long it will take for Draper to return to full fitness, but he’ll certainly be one to keep an eye on over the next few months.

Draper will begin his Indian Wells title defence when the tournament starts on Wednesday, March 4.
