Ivo Karlovic has today officially announced the end of his tennis career with an emotional post on Instagram.

Ivo Karlovic officially announces retirement on Instagram

At 44-years-old, the curtain has been closed on the tennis career of Karlovic – the big-serving Croatian who arguably underachieved.

In fairness, it’s a case of this news being long overdue with the player now featuring at a Grand Slam since 2021.

On that occasion, he lost in the first round of the US Open and ultimately, the big events have never been his friend.

His best result at a major tournament came in 2009 when he reached the last eight of Wimbledon.

On that occasion, he was thrashed by eventual winner Roger Federer in straight sets and that’s as close as he came.

Karlovic claimed earlier today that many people often ask him when he will be returning to action.

Now, he’s posted the following message on Instagram confirming the end of his playing career.

Karlovic will be remembered for big serves

It’s tough to be successful on the professional tennis circuit and Karlovic never really got going at the Grand Slam events.

He did win eight titles during his career and finished with a 51.7% win ratio throughout his career.

Karlovic reached a high of number 14 in the world but just couldn’t quite crack the top 10.

Arguably his defining moment as a player came in 2005 when he helped Croatia win the Davis Cup.

Remarkably, Karlovic fired a whipping 13,728 aces during his career and his second only to John Isner on the all-time list.
