Matteo Berrettini is now edging back to a return to tennis after withdrawing from the first Grand Slam of the season.
The news has come courtesy of Sky Sports.
So, exactly what has Berrettini said about his recovery? Let’s take a closer look…
Matteo Berrettini edges closer to full fitness
It was a real shame that the Italian player had to pull out of the Australian Open back in January.
The man who has reached a Wimbledon final previously was scheduled to come up against Stefanos Tsitsipas in round one – and that might have proved special.
Now, the player has full focus on getting back to fitness and trying to make waves during 2024.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m better but I’m not 100% yet. The goal is to play the whole season and without these setbacks which are destroying my body and my head.”
Berrettini is a likeable player on the tour and he will hope to get back to the sort of form he was starting to show.

The 27-year-old has also reached the last four in Melbourne and at the US Open – with his best run at Roland Garros being a quarter-final in 2021.
Berrettini can achieve slam success but it won’t be easy
A lot of players will take a great deal of heart from Jannik Sinner winning the Australian Open last month – including Berrettini.
The player is quality on his day but his problem in recent times has been staying fit long enough to gain any real consistency.
Berrettini is a likeable player on the circuit and the game is better with the top players competing with each other on a frequent basis.
In our view, this is a really positive update from Berrettini and hopefully, he can return ahead of schedule and hit the ground running.
