‘I’m a little concerned’… Andy Roddick admits he’s getting worried about 36-year-old ATP star

Andy Roddick has admitted that he’s growing a little bit concerned about serial Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic.

The retired player was speaking to the Served Podcast.

Well, it would appear as though Roddick perhaps spotted something about Djokovic during the Australian Open.

The 36-year-old was beaten by eventual winner Jannik Sinner in Melbourne to miss out on title number 11 in Australia.

Roddick believes that Djokovic was short of his best at the tournament and thinks players are sussing how to beat him.

He told the Served Podcast: “He kind of limped out of this Australian Open a little bit, you know, through no fault of his own, the guy’s been better than anyone on earth, and it’s going to happen.

“But, I’m a little concerned…one, he’s not getting younger when it turns, it turns quickly also, he has guys that can punch him in the mouth, you know.

“He has this new generation that once they know they can beat him, they’re not going to revert to the mentality that there’s no way to beat him.”

Writing Djokovic off is foolish but Roddick has a point

Make no bones about it, Djokovic isn’t finished just yet. He will surely lay claim to another major title – if not more!

However, Roddick does make some sense to suggest that the younger players will take heart from Djokovic losing to Sinner in the last four.

Much like it did with Roger Federer – and to a certain extent Rafa Nadal – there will come a time when age catches up with Djokovic.

In recent times, the player has been an immovable object at the Grand Slam tournaments but things might be about to change.

Hopefully, this can be good for the game of tennis that Sinner has shown the others the way at a major.

Djokovic will definitely claim another big title but perhaps now the four tournaments can be far more competitive than they have been in recent years.
