Iga Swiatek shared how she was able to bounce back from a shock Australian Open defeat.
The 22-year-old is having a stellar season in which she has claimed multiple titles and is the clear favourite to retain her Roland Garros crown.
She has now surpassed 100 weeks as the top ranked player and she is hungry for ever more success.
But the World Number One had a difficult start to her 2024 campaign which left her in a dark space that she needed to find a way out of.
Iga Swiatek shares how Australian Open loss impacted her
Swiatek began her 2024 season by helping Poland reach the finals of the United Cup, where they were beaten 2-1 by Germany despite winning her singles match against Angelique Kerber.
She then attempted to win the Australian Open for the first time, but she squandered a one-set lead to lose 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 to Linda Nosková in the third round.
In an interview with On, a Swiss Zurich-based sports company who sponsors Swiatek, she described her mental state after the defeat and what she did to bounce back.
“When I lost at the Australian Open earlier than people would have expected it was after this moment, that I was able to accept in a way that there are certain spheres still in my tennis that I need to improve, right?,” Swiatek said.
“Of course, it wasn’t easy and those two weeks working in Warsaw I certainly had to dig myself out of some negative thoughts, negative dialogue. But nevertheless, I still know that I have a lot to improve.”

What has Iga Swiatek won since the 2024 Australian Open?
Swiatek rebounded from her surprise Australian Open defeat in emphatic fashion.
She stormed to her third successive title in Qatar without dropping a set and claimed the Indian Wells trophy a month later.
She lost early in Dubai and Miami, but made the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open before winning the Madrid and Rome titles back-to-back on her beloved clay.
Swiatek became just the third player after Serena Williams and Dinara Safina to win both those tournaments in the same season.
Should she win Roland Garros for the fourth time, Swiatek will join Serena as the only players to win Madrid, Rome and the clay court Grand Slam in the same year.
