The US will face Poland in the semifinals of the United Cup as they continue their title defence in Australia.

American men’s number one, Taylor Fritz, will face Hubert Hurkacz, but the biggest match of the tie will be Iga Swiatekβ€˜s clash with Coco Gauff.

Swiatek and Gauff played each other twice in 2025, with one of their meetings coming in last year’s United Cup final.

The Pole suffered a defeat to the US star that day, losing in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, before Fritz went on to seal the tie against Hurkacz.

After losing her second 2025 bout with Gauff at the Madrid Open, Swiatek will now have the chance to earn revenge, which she touched on in her post-match press conference following Poland’s win over Australia in the quarterfinals.

Iga Swiatek previews her match with Coco Gauff at the United Cup

β€œWell, honestly, I had no idea we were playing [the] US,” admitted the world number two. β€œI just got to know, actually, when I saw we had mixed doubles under control.

β€œI’m going to prepare the plan tomorrow. For sure, it’s a good match, like exciting for the fans, I think. But I’ll focus on my singles. Obviously, we know each other’s game pretty well with Coco.

β€œThe key for me will be just to focus on myself, try to implement the stuff that I worked on during the pre-season and be brave with the decisions. Yeah, we’ll see.

β€œWe played so many matches with Coco that I don’t really, like, look at the previous ones so much. Like, if I would have to do that every time, I would be thinking for a long time because we played many matches against each other.

β€œBut yeah, honestly, after last year’s tournament, I didn’t really analyse this match that much. I was already kind of focused on [the] Australian Open.

β€œFor sure, I’m going to sit with Wim [Fissette] tomorrow, and he will watch it, and he will give me the tips.”

The last time Iga Swiatek beat Coco Gauff on a hard court

Gauff is currently on a three-match winning streak against Swiatek, having overcome the six-time major champion at the Madrid Open and United Cup in 2025, as well as the WTA Finals in 2024.

Before that, Swiatek led the head-to-head 11-1, with her latest victory over Gauff coming at Roland Garros in 2024.

Her last win against Gauff on hard court, however, was back in 2023 at the WTA Finals in Mexico.

There, Swiatek emerged triumphant 6-0, 7-5 in the group stage.

Gauff’s only other win versus Swiatek was at the 2023 Cincinnati Open, where she came out on top in three sets.
