Iga Swiatek highlighted the mistakes she made against Coco Gauff at the WTA Finals.
The Pole is now in jeopardy of missing the semi-finals after she suffered just her second career defeat to the World number three.
Swiatek is playing in her first tournament since the 2024 US Open and she now suffered her first loss since her exit at Flushing Meadows.
Gauff completed a 6-3, 6-4 victory to book her spot in the last four of the WTA Finals, but it remains to be seen if the former World number one will join her and keep her title defence alive.
What does Iga Swiatek plan to change in her game after WTA finals loss to Coco Gauff?
Iga Swiatek made some uncharacteristic errors during her defeat to Coco Gauff at the WTA Finals.
In fact, she committed 47 unforced errors and this is something fans are not used to seeing from the five-time Grand Slam champion.
During an interview with Canal+ Sport post-match, Swiatek outlined what she needs to work on as she aims to qualify for the semi-finals at the season-ending championships.
“I know what mistakes I made and this match will force me to be more disciplined in the future. I know when I made bad decisions, which shots failed and how not to repeat them,” she said.
“My serve is sometimes shaky. There were games where I served great, but there were also games when I felt strange. Next time I will try to make it much more stable.”

Iga Swiatek has some work to do with new coach Wim Fissette
Gauff was the superior player in the first set where did not face a break point and committed just two double faults.
The second set was more even with both players struggling to maintain an advantage and had trouble holding serve.
Swiatek broke Gauff twice but on both occasions lost her serve in the very next game. While serving to stay in the match down 4-5, Swiatek was broken again and Gauff won the match. Post-match Swiatek elaborated on what she aims to improve with her new coach Wim Fissette.
“We (coach Wim Fissette) both noticed what mistakes I made. I think I didn’t rotate the ball enough, because towards the end I played flat and forcefully, which is not my style,” she added.
“However, because of the fact that I am ‘rusty in the head’, I made the same mistakes when approaching the ball. I have to force myself so that next time it won’t be like that.”
