Iga Swiatek knows what she must do to improve her chances of winning Wimbledon.
There was an air of uncertainty around the World number one entering the grass court Grand Slam.
She did not play any matches on the surface before the event after pulling out of the Berlin Championships and she has yet to flourish at SW19.
The 21-year-old also had a tough first round opponent in Sofia Kenin who took out Coco Gauff in the first round of Wimbledon last year.
But Swiatek produced a solid performance to reach the second round at the All-England Club.
What does Iga Swiatek want to start doing at Wimbledon?
Swiatek completed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the former Australian Open champion to reach round two. She extended her win streak to 20 matches and registered 72 Grand Slam singles wins since the turn of this century, more than any other woman.
One of the four-time Grand Slam champion’s biggest strengths in Tuesday’s encounter was her serve. She won 41 of 57 points and hit six aces in the process.
The serve is something Swiatek wants to become more of a threat on grass which would boost her chances of winning Wimbledon for the first time.
“That was also one of the goals, to sometimes win kind of by serving and making pressure with that,” she said post-match. “I managed to do that on other surfaces. Hopefully on this surface, it’s going to be also similar.
“Here it’s even more important to serve well on the first serve. It seemed fine in practice, so I’m going to try it out on matches with some stress coming in and everything. Hopefully this progress that I’ve made is going to pay off.”

Iga Swiatek maintains unbeaten record against Sofia Kenin
Swiatek had yet to lose against Kenin and she maintained her unbeaten record against the American with a straight sets win at Wimbledon.
Each of their matches have taken place at Grand Slams and Kenin has yet to take a set off the WTA’s top-ranked player. Swiatek has moved through to round two where she will play Croatia’s Petra Martic.
“Honestly, on this surface it’s not about the result for me, about the progress,” she said in her on-court interview. “In terms of if I’m doing things better than last year. I’m not really looking at numbers or statistics, just trying to be better every day.
“Obviously, I had a great beginning of the season so I feel like I can come here and kind of not worry about points or anything, yeah, just focus on what I want to focus on.”
