Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins resumed their intense WTA rivalry in the third round of Wimbledon.

The Pole and American had met on the WTA Tour nine times previously, in one of the more intriguing rivalries in women’s tennis.

Collins and Swiatek clashed at the Olympic Games in 2024, when the former accused the five-time Grand Slam champion of being ‘insincere’ as she struggled with an injury.

Their rivalry was reignited at the United Cup in January when Collins seemed to roll her eyes when shaking Swiatek’s hand before the final.

Securing her first win over the Pole in three years, Collins defeated Swiatek 6-1, 7-5 at the Italian Open on clay.

Looking for revenge in the third round of Wimbledon, Swiatek returned to winning ways, dominating Collins 6-2, 6-3 on Centre Court.

During her post-match interview, Swiatek outlined the tactical tweaks she made to nullify one part of Collins’ game.

Iga Swiatek played ‘fast and proactive’ to stop Danielle Collins from hitting winners

Delighted with the win, Swiatek assessed her performance against Collins, revealing the tactics she deployed to secure the win.

“I was just in the zone, you know. I knew how I wanted to play, and I knew I needed to be brave and just do the job, play fast,” she said.

“Be proactive from the beginning, because you can’t let Danielle [Collins] hit her winners.

“So, I’m really happy with the performance because there were no ups and downs. It was pretty consistent, and it was a good match.”

Swiatek was as intense as ever during her third-round match, as she explained how her mindset causes her problems from time to time.

“That’s a problem sometimes,” she admitted.

“I’m an intense person, so I really try to use every opportunity to cool down and chill.

“My mind likes to be busy, so I just try to put it in the right direction to be busy with, the things that I need to do, not, you know, thinking about what I want for dinner on court.”

The 23-year-old certainly looked to have things under control against Collins as she continues to impress on the grass.

Iga Swiatek says she is having ‘much more fun’ on grass in 2025

Swiatek has now won six matches on grass in 2025, having reached the final of the Bad Homburg Open leading into Wimbledon.

The world number four has clearly made real strides on what had been her weakest surface, as she now gives her verdict on the grass.

“Honestly, it’s much more fun this year. I’ve had some practices where the ball was listening to me, which was pretty new on the grass,” said Swiatek.

“I’m just looking for that feeling with the match as well, and for sure today was a good day, in Bad Homburg as well, many good matches, so for sure giving me confidence, feeling good on grass.

“I feel like I’m moving better this year on grass. So I can also rely on that sometimes”

Swiatek will look to win her seventh match of the year on grass when she takes on Denmark’s Clara Tauson for a place in the quarterfinals.
