Iga Swiatek secured a maiden Wimbledon title in the summer, bringing her Grand Slam tally up to six at 24 years of age.

The Pole became the first from her country to emerge victorious at the All England Club in singles, and did so with a display of complete domination in the final.

Swiatek defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in the championship match, marking just the second time in the Open Era a major final had ended with a double bagel.

The one-sided result was unexpected, with Anisimova having recorded an impressive campaign at Wimbledon, which included a semifinal triumph over world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Recently, Swiatek reflected on the victory and revealed that she was being asked a ‘crazy’ question by many people when she faced the media after the match.

Iga Swiatek reflects on the reaction to her Wimbledon victory

In an interview with the Guardian, Swiatek said: “I wasn’t really thinking about how it looks, I was just playing, and I didn’t want to give any points for free. It’s a Wimbledon final, I wanted to win it really bad.

“After, for sure, there were a lot of crazy things happening. I remember all these interviews about the score, journalists asking questions if I should let Amanda win one game or something like that. It was pretty different.

Who will win the 2026 Australian Open?

“I can only say that this tournament shows tennis is [such a] mental sport. This part of the game has a huge impact on everything and on the results of each player.

“I’m really happy I handled the pressure well, because after the final, everybody was talking about Amanda being stressed or something, but I was also stressed as hell; playing the final of Wimbledon on Centre Court is a surreal experience.”

Swiatek had struggled at Wimbledon over the years prior to 2025, having endured multiple early exits in SW19.

That all changed this year when she put together a phenomenal run at the championships.

The start of Swiatek’s run at Wimbledon was not all plain sailing, with the six-time major champion being tested early on, particularly in round two against Caty McNally, where she had to come back from a set down.

She quickly grew into the tournament, however, and earned two comfortable straight-set wins over both Danielle Collins and Clara Tauson.

Swiatek continued her hot streak in the quarterfinals, in which she overcame Liudmila Samsonova 6-2, 7-5 to guarantee her best career finish at Wimbledon.

Then, in the semifinals, Swiatek picked up her most convincing win of the tournament to that point, beating former world number four Belina Bencic 6-2, 6-0.

That result would ultimately be topped, however, when she thrashed Anisimova in the final, in one of the more bizarre matches in recent memory.
