Iga Swiatek posts first message on social media since her ‘tough’ exit from Indian Wells

Iga Swiatek has reflected on her quarterfinal exit from Indian Wells this year.

Swiatek lost to Elina Svitolina at Indian Wells, in her fifth consecutive defeat against a top 10 player.

Following her loss to Svitolina, Swiatek was confirmed to drop in the WTA rankings and be overtaken by Elena Rybakina.

One day after her exit from Indian Wells, Swiatek has taken to Instagram to share her thoughts on her defeat to Svitolina.

Swiatek had not dropped a set prior to her quarterfinal match against Svitolina, where she cut a frustrated figure in her three-set defeat.

The six-time Grand Slam champion hit 42 unforced errors in her defeat, and Swiatek has admitted that it was far from her best performance in a post on Instagram.

While it was a disappointing end to Indian Wells for Swiatek, she suggested that she was now looking ahead to the upcoming Miami Open.

Swiatek wrote,”Yesterday’s match didn’t go the way I wanted. Not my best day, not best performance for sure. It’s tough, but these situations are part of sports life.

“Thank you all for the support. The hard work doesn’t stop. See you in Miami.”

How many ranking points is Iga Swiatek defending at the Miami Open?

Swiatek is one of only four women to complete the sunshine double, as both a former Indian Wells and Miami Open champion.

The Pole won the Miami Open in 2022, but she has not surpassed the quarterfinals at the Floridian WTA 1000 title since.

Swiatek suffered a shock defeat to Alexandra Eala in the Miami Open quarterfinals last year, and will be defending 215 ranking points at this year’s tournament.

Although she will drop down to world number three in the WTA rankings after Indian Wells, Swiatek will still be the second seed at the Miami Open.

The main draw of the Miami Open gets underway on Tuesday, March 17, but as a seeded player Swiatek will not begin her tournament until at least Thursday, March 19.
