Iga Swiatek has started her 2025 season in the best possible way, having endured a difficult end to 2024.
Swiatek accepted a suspension from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), having tested positive for trimetazidine.
But WTA Tour number two Swiatek is now back on the court and shining brightly in Australia, helping fire Poland into the United Cup quarter-finals after they topped Group B in Sydney.
Swiatek amazed fans against Casper Ruud as last year’s finalists secured a 2-1 win over Norway first up, with that scoreline repeated against the Czech Republic.
She is now unbeaten in all four of her singles and doubles matches so far, with her latest in the former category coming against Karolina Muchova.

Iga Swiatek makes tennis history at the 2025 United Cup
And not only did it help secure a 2025 United Cup quarter-final spot, it also means Swiatek has made tennis history.
As per OptaAce, she has now become the first female or male player to secure 10 singles match wins at the United Cup.
The victory over WTA number 22 Muchova was much needed after her compatriot Hubert Hurkacz lost to Tomas Machac.
But Hurkacz quickly recovered from that singles loss, partnering Swiatek to overcome Machac and Muchova in the mixed doubles.
Iga Swiatek ‘proud’ of United Cup win vs Karolina Muchova
Like many WTA and ATP stars, Swiatek will be using the United Cup as preparation for the Australian Open.
Melbourne plays host to the opening Grand Slam of the new season, which gets underway later this month.
And Swiatek is certainly finding her feet at the right time, with the Pole very proud of her record-breaking win against Muchova.
Discussing the pressure she was put under by her opponent in the first set, she said: “I don’t remember precisely, because I spent like four hours on court.
“No, but seriously, playing against her is always a pleasure. Like, she brings so much variety. She has a different game style, so smooth, than most of the players. I really enjoyed this.”
Then reminded that she got broken in the first, Swiatek replied: “Okay, okay. Yeah, I’m happy I kept being patient, and I felt that my intensity was kind of like a wave. So at the end I knew that I can go for more, and I’m really happy how I closed both sets.
“Second set, for sure at the end I think we were both pretty tight, but we managed both to push through it to keep the level high.
“I’m really proud of that, because this is something that every player wants, push through these moments and go forward and win. So for sure I’m proud of today’s performance.”
