Iga Swiatek has added another tournament to her already packed schedule…
The world number two finished her 2025 campaign last week, helping Poland defeat Romania to advance to next year’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers
However, that won’t be the last time fans see her in 2025, as Swiatek has now signed up to play an exhibition event in December.

Swiatek will travel to Shenzhen, China, to compete in ‘The World Tennis Continental Cup’ between December 26-28.
The move makes little sense, given Swiatek’s previous comments about the overwhelming tennis calendar.
Iga Swiatek has contradicted herself by signing up for off-season exhibitions
Swiatek has been one of the most vocal about the need for a change in the schedule, which makes it all the more confusing to see her choose to play an exhibition tournament.
Rather than resting up before making the trip to Australia, Swiatek will now spend time in China, potentially risking an injury before the season officially begins.
It certainly looks like Swiatek has contradicted herself, but what exactly has she said about the tennis calendar?
During this year’s China Open, Swiatek shared her thoughts on the ‘crazy’ tennis calendar.
“Well, when I look at the schedule, I think we’re playing too much, and the schedule is crazy,” she said.

“The schedule is really demanding and tough.”
To say that and then commit to an off-season exhibition seems bizarre, although the differences between competition matches and exhibition bouts shouldn’t be overlooked.
Avoid saying the same tennis player as me quiz
Exhibition matches are often played in good spirits, with little focus on who wins.
Players go for stylish shots they wouldn’t risk on the WTA Tour and don’t exert the same amount of energy they would in a professional match.
That’s not to say they don’t risk injuring themselves, but the risk is significantly lower than it is on tour.
Adding to that the hefty prize money that has likely been offered, it becomes more understandable why players choose to attend these exhibitions.
Whether Swiatek has made the right decision or not is up for debate, but when will she return to competitive action?
Iga Swiatek will return to competitive tennis at the 2026 United Cup
Swiatek will make her 2026 bow at the United Cup, representing Team Poland.
Thanks to the efforts of Swiatek and ATP star Hubert Hurkacz, Poland have been one of the most consistent performers at the event since its introduction in 2023.
Team Poland’s United Cup record
- 2023 United Cup – Poland lost to USA in SF (0-5)
- 2024 United Cup – Poland lost to Germany in F (1-2)
- 2025 United Cup – Poland lost to USA in F (0-2)
Finishing as runners-up in 2024 and 2025, Poland and Swiatek will no doubt have ambitions of going all the way this January.

But who will Poland play in the 2026 United Cup?
2026 United Cup draw
| Group | Team 1 | Team 2 | Team 3 |
| Group A | USA | Spain | Argentina |
| Group B | Canada | Belgium | China |
| Group C | Italy | France | Switzerland |
| Group D | Australia | Czechia | Norway |
| Group E | Great Britain | Greece | Japan |
| Group F | Germany | Poland | Netherlands |
The Poles have been drawn in Group F alongside Germany and the Netherlands.
They’ll need to be at their best if they are to beat Germany, a team led by the world number three, Alexander Zverev.
Zverev was forced to withdraw during the 2025 United Cup and will be determined to guide his team to a second title in three years in 2026.
Swiatek and Hurkacz have bad memories of Zverev in the competition, losing to him and partner Laura Siegemund in a 10-point tiebreaker in the 2024 final.
Only time will tell if the pair can get their revenge in the new year, but you definitely won’t want to miss any of the action.
Team Poland will take on Team Germany at the 2026 United Cup on Monday, January 5.
