Iga Swiatek will look to secure her second tour-level title of the season when she faces Jasmine Paolini in the Cincinnati Open final.

After a season of near misses, Swiatek finally hoisted a trophy in 2025 when she emerged victorious at Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

Now standing in the way of the Pole adding to her collection is Paolini, who knocked out second seed Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals en route to the championship match.

The Italian, who made the semifinals in Miami and won the title in Rome, has enjoyed yet another deep run at a WTA 1000 event, but is now faced with the six-time major champion, who holds an incredible record at this level.

Swiatek has yet to drop a set at this year’s Cincinnati Open, having earned comfortable wins over seeded stars such as Anna Kalinskaya and Elena Rybakina.

The 24-year-old is tough to beat when she draws first blood in the match, as evidenced by her undefeated record in WTA 1000 matches when going a set to the good.

After taking the first set, Swiatek has a record of 100%, with a tally of 104 wins to zero losses.

The last time she came close to losing the streak was at the Madrid Open in late April, where, after conceding the second set to Diana Shnaider, she managed to take the third by six games to four.

The Wimbledon champion has proved to be a difficult opponent for Paolini over the years, having won all five of their meetings on the WTA Tour.

They first clashed on the clay courts of Prague in 2018, when, as a teenager, Swiatek defeated her in straight sets.

Four years separated their first and second bouts, with the next coming at the US Open in 2022, where Paolini lost comfortably again.

After another loss in the Roland Garros final in 2024, she finally took a set off her opponent at the Billie Jean King Cup, but ultimately came up short once more.

Paolini’s most recent defeat to Swiatek came in the semifinals of the Bad Homburg Open earlier this summer.
