Iga Swiatek comfortably booked her place in the second round of the French Open.

The four-time Roland Garros champion dominated Australian player Emerson Jones in round one, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Swiatek recorded an up-and-down clay-court swing heading into the Grand Slam, which started with a quarterfinal exit in Stuttgart.

Is Coco Gauff going back-to-back at Roland Garros with this draw?

She then lost in the third round of the Madrid Open, but then reached the semifinals in Rome, before falling to eventual champion Elina Svitolina.

Looking to build on her Italian Open campaign, Swiatek is off to a strong start in Paris, where she has just made history.

Iga Swiatek makes history at the French Open with first win

According to Opta Ace, Swiatek is now the first player in the Open Era to reach the second round at all first 25 women’s singles Grand Slam events of a decade.

Since the beginning of the 2020 season, Swiatek has advanced to at least the second round at every major she has appeared at.

Her last first-round exit at a Grand Slam tournament came at the 2019 edition of Wimbledon, where she was beaten by Swiss player Viktorija Golubic.

How would you now rate Aryna Sabalenka’s chances of winning the French Open on a scale of 1-10?

From 2020 to 2026, Swiatek has won six Grand Slam titles, including four French Opens, a US Open crown, and a Wimbledon championship.

On the men’s side, three players in history have made the second round at all of the first 25 singles Grand Slam events of a decade: Novak Djokovic (2010s), Roger Federer (2010s) and Jim Courier (1990s).

Iga Swiatek’s next opponent at the 2026 French Open

In the second round of the French Open, Swiatek will take on 20-year-old Czech star Sara Bejlek, whom she has never faced before.

Bejlek defeated former US Open champion Sloane Stephens to advance to round two in Paris, and will now be faced with an incredibly difficult assignment.

Swiatek has been handed a favourable draw at Roland Garros, in which she can avoid both finalists from last year, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, until the final.

At the opposite end of her quarter is her Rome conqueror Elina Svitolina, who also emerged victorious in her opening match on Monday.

Should Swiatek reach the semifinals, she will likely have to face Elena Rybakina.
