Since the beginning of the 2024 ATP season, every Grand Slam winner has been named either Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner.

Dubbed the ‘new two’, Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated the tour, splitting each of the past nine major titles between them, while sitting atop the rankings with points tallies miles clear of everyone else.

The Spaniard and the Italian have totals of 13,150 and 10,300, respectively, with Novak Djokovic the closest to them in third on 5,280 points.

Will Carlos Alcaraz win the Calendar Slam in 2026?

If not, which Grand Slam is he going to fail to win?

Alcaraz and Sinner have both been on the ATP Tour for over half a decade now, having made their debuts in 2020 and 2019.

Prior to the duo of superstars bursting onto the scene, the rankings looked very different compared to now.

Sinner made his tour debut before Alcaraz at an ATP 250 event in Budapest on the 20th of April 2019, and advanced in the first round via a walkover against Lukas Rosol.

The last set of rankings before Sinner played his first ATP match came out on the 15th of April, and featured Djokovic as the world number one.

Trailing the Serb in second was his longtime rival, Rafael Nadal, while Alexander Zverev was in third place at the time.

Roger Federer, aged 37 then, was ranked fourth in the world, and despite his career overlapping with Alcaraz and Sinner, he never played either of them.

Several veterans were still active on the tour alongside Federer, including 40-year-old Ivo Karlovic and 37-year-old Feliciano Lopez.

By the time Alcaraz made his debut at the Rio Open in 2020, Karlovic had retired.

When will Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner play next?

Following their lengthy campaigns at the Australian Open, both Alcaraz and Sinner opted not to play in Marseille, Rotterdam, Buenos Aires or Dallas.

The two will next be in action at the men’s tournament at the Qatar Open, which kicks off on the 16th of February.

Djokovic, who was denied in the final of the Australian Open by Alcaraz, was set to join them at the ATP 500 event, but he withdrew due to ‘strong fatigue’.

Andrey Rublev is the reigning champion in Doha, with the Russian beating Jack Draper in last year’s final to hoist the trophy.
