Jannik Sinner got his ATP Finals title defence off to the perfect start earlier tonight, as he battled past Felix Auger-Aliassime.
And whilst the scoreline will show a straight-sets victory, the Canadian deserves credit for once again sticking with the former world number one throughout the bulk of the first set.
It only really felt like once his fitness began failing him, this was not a competition.
For Auger-Aliassime, provided he is not seriously injured, there’s plenty of reason for positivity in the matches that will follow this opening-round defeat.
However, for Jannik Sinner, it felt like a continuation of his dominant 2025.
With this latest win under his belt, it’s especially pertinent to compare how his win rate throughout the year compares to that of other superstars, including Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

This is perhaps a statistic that is even more worth analysing because of how Sinner’s latest win has affected the standings.
After all, by beating Auger-Aliassime, the 24-year-old climbed to an astonishing record of 54 wins and just six losses, boasting a 90% win rate.
It officially puts him a fraction above his generational rival Alcaraz, whose record of 68 wins and eight losses gives him an 89.5% win rate.
Djokovic is perhaps the most impressive of this trio though, given his age and the fact that he has only really attempted to feature in the sport’s most prestigious and toughest tournaments.
He has the third-best win rate of anyone else on the ATP Tour this year at 78%, having played a total of 50 matches.
Sinner sent a message to Auger-Aliassime after the match, praising his level whilst also wishing him a speedy recovery.

With Auger-Aliassime having lost with relative ease, it’s worth wondering whether any of the other two competitors can actually trouble Sinner.
Given the recent form the Italian has exhibited against both Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev, it’s hard to argue that either will manage.
After all, both have played him within the last month and unsurprisingly fallen to losses.
Zverev’s defeats to Sinner came in Vienna and Paris, extending his time without a win against him to over two years.
Meanwhile, Shelton has just a single career win in eight against Sinner, and even that came back in 2023.
Unless one of this pair can pull out something extraordinary, the four-time Grand Slam champion seems poised to comfortably qualify in the top spot.
