Holger Rune has booked his place in the semifinals of the Stockholm Open after coming through his clash with Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
The Dane conceded the first set but fought his way back into the contest, despite also struggling physically.
Rune took a medical timeout in the third set, dealing with pain in his left leg, and was in visible discomfort as he attempted to see out the match.
He ultimately clinched the victory over the Argentine, however, winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 to secure his spot in the final four, where he will face Ugo Humbert.

Rune is bidding to claim his second title of the 2025 season in Stockholm, following his triumph in Barcelona from earlier this year.
His pursuit of the crown is now in doubt, though, after his comments regarding the injury in his on-court interview.

When asked how he felt, Rune said: “Yeah, not so good. I’m very happy that I managed to finish the match, honestly, you know.
“I couldn’t have done it without you great fans, so honestly, thank you very much you really helped me a lot today.
“I was really struggling, as you saw with my left leg, but you know the energy from you guys was very special.”
Speaking about his availability for the semifinal, he said: “Yeah, let’s see. I mean, first, I just have to recover and let’s see. I hope to be ready.
“We’re going to do everything we can to make my body ready, and hopefully I’ll be there.”

Holger Rune’s results on the ATP Tour recently
Following a disappointing second-round exit at the US Open, Rune was hoping to enjoy a much-needed return to form.
Representing Team Europe at the Laver Cup, he lost both his singles tie against Francisco Cerundolo and his doubles match partnered with Casper Ruud against the team of Alex de Minaur and Alex Michelsen.
On the Asian swing, Rune’s results did not get much better, with the 22-year-old falling in the quarterfinals of the Japan Open to Jenson Brooksby.
He then entered the penultimate Masters 1000 competition of the season, where he suffered defeat to the eventual champion, Valentin Vacherot, in the last eight.
Now, Rune may have to deal with an injury setback in the period of the season that, historically, he has found success in.
