Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur has shared details of a bromance with Gael Monfils during a recent interview.
The player has been speaking with ABN AMRO Open’s official Twitter.
So, what has De Minaur said about his relationship with Monfils? Let’s take a closer look…
Alex De Minaur raves about Gael Monfils
The 24-year-old is currently playing in an ATP Tour event in Rotterdam and faces Alexander Rublev in the quarter-final tomorrow.
Yesterday, however, he took some time off on Valentine’s Day to speak on a compilation video of players suggesting which players they love.
De Minaur picked out Monfils for some praise and it seems as though the pair are extremely close.
He told the ABN AMRO Open’s official Twitter: “I love Gael Monfils because he’s a super cool guy.
“He’s always had my back. We trained from a very young age, and he’s always been a great guy.”

De Minaur is striving for consistency on the big stage and his best Grand Slam performance to date came in 2020 when he reached the quarter-final of the US Open.
In the first major of 2024 he lost valiantly to Rublev after a five-set thriller.
De Minaur lauds Monfils
It’s probably not unfair to say that Monfils has underachieved in his career.
The French player has reached two Grand Slam semi-finals at the French Open in 2008 and at the US Open in 2016.
However, it’s fair to say that he could have done more and at 37-years-old, it’s hard to imagine him getting one of the big prizes now.
De Minaur will hope that he goes on and achieves some major silverware during his career.
At 24, he has bags of time on his side and given his natural talent, he will hope to be ticking Grand Slams off in the coming years.
