Jannik Sinner has dominated the tennis headlines across the last month, for both good and bad reasons.

After all, as much as he has been lauded for winning the US Open, his second-ever Grand Slam title, he has also been equally as scrutinised for the controversy surrounding his positive drug test.

Having since been cleared, not all are convinced, but Grigor Dimitrov has at least come out to give his verdict on the ATP’s handling of it all.

Speaking to bTv, quizzed about Jannik Sinner’s drug case ruling, the Bulgarian is the latest to weigh in on this controversial topic.

And, he would not hold back in his assessment either, noting: ‘As I said before, in New York, what struck me the most as strange was how the protocols of this situation were handled.

‘There are players who experienced completely different processes, with different procedures, and it made me wonder if there were double standards.

‘Double standards, this is essentially what I say.

‘We see this in other sports as well. It’s not a secret. But the way this case unfolded was very strange to me, even as someone who has been on the ATP tour for many years. We know things from the inside, especially how tournaments are run.’

How have players reacted to Jannik Sinner’s drug case?

With Dimitrov offering his testimony, he joins a long line of both players and pundits to give their thoughts on the matter.

Honestly, it’s supremely impressive that Jannik Sinner managed to win the US Open amidst all this turmoil, with the Italian the sole focus throughout the event.

Naturally, Nick Kyrgios’ assessment of Sinner’s drug case has been a critical one, with the cynical Australian unrelenting in his continued rambling.

However, not all are so critical.

Casper Ruud sympathised with Sinner recently after admitting to reading up on the facts, whilst Roger Federer has slammed the ATP for their handling of this situation.

It’s a really messy event that has put a dark cloud on the 23-year-old’s remarkable season, but it does seem like, with time, more figures are starting to do their research and come to a reasonable conclusion.
