Serena Williams will soon make her long-awaited return to singles action at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.
Williams has featured in two doubles matches since her groundbreaking comeback to professional tennis.
The 44-year-old won her first match back alongside 19-year-old Canadian star Victoria Mboko at Queen’s, beating the third-seeded duo of Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez.

The 44-year-old has received a wildcard…
After Mboko was forced to retire from Queen’s due to injury, Williams partnered up with Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open, but the two lost their opening matchup.
Following confirmation of her doubles wildcard with her older sister, Venus, the 23-time Grand Slam champion received a wildcard for the singles draw, where former US Open finalist Greg Rusedski thinks she can do some damage.

Greg Rusedski previews Serena Williams singles run at Wimbledon
Williams has not played any singles matches heading into Wimbledon, but Rusedski thinks that is a positive for the sport.
Speaking on his podcast, ‘Off Court with Greg‘, the 52-year-old asked: “Which one makes a bigger news story? Starting up at Queens Club or starting up at Wimbledon?
“She’s always been about the headlines, being a superstar, and to make a comeback, the announcement happening at Wimbledon makes it such a bigger deal.
“We’re all talking about it on all the podcasts, all the news shows around the world, and she’s getting exactly what she wants.

They’ve won six Wimbledon doubles titles together…
“Also, she’s been on the practice court. I’ve seen her out at Aorangi Park for two to three hours a day. She’s striking the ball beautifully. She has two hitting partners. Rennae Stubbs is there with her.
“I think she’s gonna win a few matches. I don’t see her going deep in the second week, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the draw works out nicely for her to see her in the second week.
“Her serve has been firing brilliantly. She looks in great shape, and at 44 years young, you don’t come back to make up the numbers.”

Greg Rusedski reveals what he’s heard coaches say about Serena Williams
Rusedski continued: “But it’s gonna be interesting because I spoke to a few coaches on the WTA Tour, and some of them are thinking, well, I’m not so sure she’s gonna do so well.
“They’re thinking, okay, the game has moved on in four years. She’s 44 years of age, but this has caused immense intrigue.
“And we talked about match-ups. Imagine if she plays Emma Raducanu in the first round. I mean, that would be a story the British newspapers would love. Or she plays Sabalenka, who lost 6-0 in the third to Pegula the previous week.
“So all these interesting dynamics, and a lot to talk about. And the less we know about her singles, the more drama there is around the story. So from my point of view, that’s a positive.”
Williams’ last singles match came at the 2022 US Open, where she bowed out in the third round to Ajla Tomljanovic.
