The latest edition of the Battle of the Sexes is now just over a week away, and controversy remains rife.

After all, despite the undeniable intrigue it has commanded, much of the reaction to this clash has been negative.

For Aryna Sabalenka, many have slammed her for putting women’s tennis unnecessarily on the chopping block for her own financial gain.

Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios’ constant search for controversy has left many unsurprised by his participation.

Which two players in tennis history would you like to see in a Battle of the Sexes match?

And so, whilst some are staunchly against it and others cannot wait to watch, there is a middle ground of confused onlookers unsure about what exactly is happening.

That is where Greg Rusedski fits in.

Battle of the Sexes questioned once again

Speaking on his latest version of the Off Court with Greg podcast, the former British number one was once again speaking about the Battle of the Sexes.

And, in what seems to have been an overwhelming opinion about the clash, Rusedski was uncertain about the point of it all.

He stipulated that, before he could take it even semi-seriously, he needed three questions answered.

Rusedski claimed: “For it to be a real Battle of the Sexes, the court dimensions have to be the same and it has to be tennis.

“It could be one set, but it has to be two serves. The court size has to be the same because that’s the way tennis is played.

“Is this more of an exhibition and is Kyrgios going to take her along or is it going to be a real battle out there where they go toe-to-toe properly? We don’t know.

“Also, Kyrgios hasn’t really been on tour for three years, so we don’t know how that is going to work out if he is playing three full sets.”

He then set out his three questions: “There are three questions here. Yes you like it, no you don’t like it or is it a gimmick… and my opinion is I find it gimmicky.

“We have equal pay at the Slams now and that is 100 per cent right. I would like to see that at the Masters series [WTA 1000 events] as well.”

Billie Jean King has given her verdict on the Battle of the Sexes, with one question she will ask the Belarusian after the match has been played.

What are the rules for the 2025 Battle of the Sexes?

Whilst Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs played a normal, unchanged match of tennis, Kyrgios and Sabalenka have instead made plenty of modifications meant to close the gap between them.

One of those changes was to remove the second serve, allowing both players just a single serve to limit Kyrgios’ power and speed.

What will the impact on women’s tennis be if Nick Kyrgios wins easily?

I have a lot of respect for Nick Kyrgios and his talent, but make no mistake, I’m ready to bring my A-game.

Aryna Sabalenka

I’ve never backed down from a challenge, and I’m not just here to play; I’m here to entertain. This is what I live for.

Nick Kyrgios

What is in this for women’s tennis? Nick Kyrgios, unless he is really hurt and can’t run at all, he is going to win this match so easily.

Rennae Stubbs

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. I’m not going to watch a second of it, to be honest.

Steve Johnson

The court will also be different dimensions, with Sabalenka’s side reduced by 9%.

It is to be a best-of-three sets match, with the third set, should they get there, being a deciding 10-point tiebreak.
