Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a largely underwhelming season in 2025 and is currently ranked 26th in the ATP rankings.

Tsitsipas appointed Goran Ivanisevic as his new head coach after an early exit at the French Open, where he crashed out in the second round to Matteo Gigante.

Ivanisevic led Novak Djokovic’s coaching team from 2019 to 2024 and guided the Serbian legend to nine major titles during their partnership.

In his new venture, the former Wimbledon champion will hope to help Tsitsipas, who reached a career high of third in the world, get back to his best.

The two recently trained together in Zagreb, where Ivanisevic gave his assessment of where the Greek star’s current level is.

Goran Ivanisevic says how high Stefanos Tsitsipas can go in the rankings

Speaking to Croatian outlet Dnevnik HRT, Ivanisevic said of Tsitsipas: “He tried 12 rackets, it’s not exactly the timing for trying rackets [laughs], but today he decided on the racket he will play with.

“Right now, I can’t say he’s in the best phase, neither playing nor physically. He’s a player in the top five in terms of potential, in terms of results, in terms of everything.

“I’m not Harry Potter with that wand that I’ll wave now, and it’ll happen the day after tomorrow.

“When it’ll be, I don’t know, but for sure if he works normally, if there’s cooperation as it should be, it’ll happen with or without me.

“He’s too good a player to be here where he is to play the way he’s playing right now.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas says he’s never worked so hard in the last two months

When discussing his new coach with Dnevnik HRT, Tsitsipas said: “He’s a very honest man, which I appreciate, and that’s what I need in a partnership like this; I need honesty and transparency between player and coach.

“I believe with the right mentality, with the right work ethic, with the right structure of practices and tournaments, we can achieve a great collaboration together.

“The last couple of years haven’t been that good to me, but that is something that I will need to work on myself, too. It doesn’t just come from the people surrounding me; it also comes from myself.

“I’ve never worked so hard in the last two months, and I’ve never put so much attention to detail.”

Tsitsipas has won one title so far this season, which came at the Dubai Tennis Championships in early March.
