Garbine Muguruza has been sharing what she loves about watching Carlos Alcaraz on court, an opinion that all tennis fans must hold.
After all, this young sensation has emerged onto the scene with incredible speed and success, already outlined himself as the outstanding player of his generation.
Expected to produce legendary things, he will likely face the bulk of the pushback on achieving that feat from one man: Jannik Sinner.
Muguruza has now noted the differences between the two, both positive and negative, which might set them apart.
Garbine Muguruza loves what Carlos Alcaraz does on court
Speaking on the Spanish radio programme El Larguero, Garbine Muguruza was quizzed on everything from his tennis compatriots to the Big Three rivalry.
Naturally, when the former topic arose, she could not go without praising Alcaraz, but did so whilst also lauding those who rival the 21-year-old.
Despite his youth, he has already accomplished so much, and the former professional tennis player outlined the comparisons, and the differences, between him and his rival at the top, Sinner.
She noted: ‘He (Alcaraz) arrived [at the French Open] half injured, which I didn’t know and then, little by little, he gained confidence.
‘I saw [Alexander] Zverev as dangerous, but Carlos is outstanding. I love the energy, I get excited when I see Carlos sticking out his fist. Sinner is super calm. On the other hand, you see Carlos and he is euphoric all the time, I love it.
‘I see them so young and already winning so much. At 20 years old, I won one and then lost in the first round, then in the third… It was a disaster. But I am amazed by this generation. From such a young age, they are machines.’
The future of tennis is exceedingly bright
With two contrasting styles, both equally as effective, it is remarkable how we have seemingly exited the era of the big three and instantly stumbled into a new duopoly.
After all, the two Grand Slams we have seen in 2024 have been one by Sinner and then Alcaraz, and all signs point towards one of these energetic superstars succeeding at Wimbledon in the coming weeks too.
They have already surpassed much of what the likes of Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud and Taylor Fritz have done with ease, and all signs point towards the duo continuing to extend that gap over this generation.
The Spaniard in question is all-action, capable of the spectacular no matter his position on the court. Meanwhile, his Italian rival is no-nonsense and ruthless, but strikes the ball with such power.
They are poised to enjoy a rivalry to span decades, and perhaps, by the end of their careers, one of them might even have enough Grand Slam titles to rival the big three they have succeeded.
