Gael Monfils confirmed for an ATP 250 event in Lyon

The 39-year-old has signed up for an ATP 250 event in Lyon, which is set to take place in late October.

Monfils has never won the tournament, which was relocated to Lyon after being held in Marseille since 1993.

French compatriot Ugo Humbert is the reigning champion, who has won the title the past two years and is now looking to three-peat.

The event takes place before the final ATP Masters 1000 competition of the season in Paris, which is likely to be Monfils’ last tournament.

The last time Gael Monfils won a title on the ATP Tour

Monfils may be in the twilight of his career, but he has still been able to go all the way at a tournament fairly recently.

His last title was clinched at the ASB Classic in Auckland last year, where he dropped just one set en route to hoisting the trophy.

Monfils’ title defence at this year’s edition of the New Zealand event ended in the first round, however.

The veteran lost to Hungarian star Fabian Marozsan in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
