Gael Monfils is set to make one last appearance at his home Grand Slam, Roland Garros, ahead of retiring at the end of the season.

Monfils announced his upcoming retirement from tennis in October last year and has since competed at five tour-level events in his swansong campaign.

So far in 2026, the Frenchman has featured in Auckland, Acapulco, Indian Wells, Monte-Carlo, and one final time at the Australian Open, where he suffered a first-round exit.

Having ticked off the first major of the year in his farewell tour, Monfils will now look to make one last deep run in Paris at the French Open.

Just over a month before Roland Garros starts, the 39-year-old has revealed there will be a tribute ceremony for him at the tournament.

Gael Monfils announces ‘Gael & Friends’ evening at Roland Garros

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Monfils said: “Roland-Garros… my last Roland-Garros. It’s strange to write, but it’s the reality.

“And rather than let it pass in silence, I wanted to mark the occasion in a way that truly feels like me. I called some friends. Real ones. Players I admire and with whom I’ve shared locker rooms, courts, and fits of laughter.

“And then some artists I deeply love, Matt Pokora, Martin Solveig, Franglish, because for me, tennis and music have always been intertwined. It’s my life, it’s my DNA.

“We’ll all meet up on Thursday, May 21, on the main court at Roland-Garros for an evening we’ve simply called: Gaël & Friends. Some tennis, some music, some surprises… and above all, love.

“Because that’s what I’ve always received from you, and that’s what I want to give back to you that night. I want us to experience something together. Something we won’t forget. See you Thursday, May 21.”

Gael Monfils’ best result at Roland Garros over the years

Monfils has never won a Grand Slam title, but he has made the semifinals on two occasions, one of which came at Roland Garros.

In 2008, aged 21, Monfils put together an impressive run in the French capital as he aimed to become the first man from his country to win the tournament since Yannick Noah in 1983.

En route to the final four, Monfils earned victories over Ivan Ljubicic and clay-court specialist David Ferrer.

However, met with Roger Federer in the semifinals, Monfils’ pursuit of history came to an end, falling to the Swiss in four sets.

Since then, Monfils’ best result at Roland Garros has been a quarterfinal finish, which he managed in 2009, 2011 and 2014.
